‘John Wick’ television series is reportedly in the works at Lionsgate. Film director Chad Stahelski revealed his plans for the prequel stories in a recent interview.
Stahelski continued to fuel rumors of a possible television series based on his popular ‘John Wick’ cinematic series starring Keanu Reeves in the lead role. He revealed his plans to expand John Wick’s world during a recent press conference.
According to /Film, Stahelski said, "We're not doing a prequel [with Chapter 2]. We wanted to, it just didn't fit quite where we're at… We basically almost have a prequel written, but we'd save that for other aspects of the property.”
Stahelski continued, "Lionsgate is very interested in doing a John Wick TV show, and that seems very appealing to us, to give those creative ideas to that entity. I think in TV you could really expand on what that is, and greater than we could in just a two-hour film... We'd like to wrap up the story we're telling now and maybe save all our prequel ideas and impossible task ideas for that medium."
According to Gamespot, the director also revealed plans for a third installment in the cinematic series last October saying that Lionsgate was looking to produce it. ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 10, 2017. It also stars Laurence Fishburne, Common, Bridget Moynahan, and John Leguizamo.
The action-thriller series follows an infamous hitman who has come out of retirement to seek vengeance. In the first film, John went after a group of mobsters after his car was stolen and his puppy killed.
The second film will follow John as he fights against the world’s deadliest killers. He will go on the run after a bounty is placed on his head. Principal photography began in New York City on October 26, 2015.
‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ is an upcoming action-thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on February 10, 2017. A television series based on the film’s titular character is reportedly in the works at Lionsgate.
