It was implied that James Greer’s (Wendell Pierce) experiences in the second season of “Jack Ryan” will have a long-term effect on his job and his health. His experiences and parting statement in the latest installment have then raised the question of what role he is going to play in “Jack Ryan” season 3.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 cast, plot rumors: James Greer could take on a new role in the CIA
Pierce is very likely to reprise his role, though it should be noted that the official cast members of “Jack Ryan” season 3 have not been announced yet. However, James’ character is one of the foundations of the series and even in the entire “Ryanverse” created by Tom Clancy.
Meanwhile, it is also important to note how James was adamant about leaving field duty for good by the end of season 2. “It's been a hell of a run, but it's over. Time to move on,” James told Jack (John Krasinski) after all the chaos they faced in Venezuela. In the same scene, James told Jack in quite a resolved tone that he can no longer go on a field assignment before adding that “someone else has to.”
Following the events in Venezuela, it is not impossible for James to receive a substantial promotion. While his character is known to detest a desk job, her statements in the season 2 finale pretty much told fans that he had come full circle. It might not be entirely by choice, but the danger he encountered overseas and his worsening heart condition obliged him.
It is then not far-fetched to see James in “Jack Ryan” season 3 still work with Jack, but possibly pulling strings from a much higher role in the CIA. CinemaBlend also pointed out that it was one of the directions James took in Clancy’s novels.
‘Jack Ryan’ season 3 production updates
Amazon Prime Video greenlit “Jack Ryan” season 3 for over a year now, but its development reportedly did not start until January. The show’s third installment will be produced under a new showrunner, Vaun Wilmott, who has also purportedly been working with Krasinski in writing the season 3 scripts.
Meanwhile, if the scripts were only in the development phase in January, there is a chance for “Jack Ryan” season 3 to be released in 2021 instead of this year as fans hoped. Seasons 1 and 2 were each developed and produced for more than a year before they were released on Amazon Prime Video.
