SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 19, 2016 -- The Orange County Register published an opinion piece today by Bridget Hood, a lupus survivor and Lupus L.A. board member and support group facilitator. May is Lupus Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness and promoting medical innovation to find treatments or a cure for this debilitating autoimmune disease. Hood has been a continued voice for medical innovation and research.
In the opinion piece, "A time to recommit to the fight against lupus," Hood makes the case that policy makers must do everything in their power to create policies that protect patients and ensure these life-saving medications are available to all who need them.
"The right kinds of public policy can offer hope for those of us who are fighting for new treatments and a cure. Policy makers in Sacramento and Washington D.C. play an important role in helping patients continue their fight. It is vital that we continue to move forward with medical innovation, and not make any kind of policy decisions that would intentionally or unintentionally slow that progress down."
