Hulu just released a documentary about former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton. Apparently, the show received such critical acclaim that her former top aide claimed that she would have won the presidency had the documentary been repealed prior to the 2016 election.
“If we had this documentary the day before Election Day in 2016, she would be president right now,” said former top aide Philippe Reines, Washington Examiner reported.
The former FLOTUS and Secretary of State starred in the critically acclaimed “Hillary,” a documentary series recently released on Hulu. The series examined Clinton’s life, her marriage to former President Bill Clinton and how she handled the private email server issue that negatively affected her 2016 presidential bid.
Reines said that they’ve always struggled to understand why there seems to be a difference in how Hillary Clinton was viewed by the public and what she is in real life. “For all these years, we were — we did everything we could, from our perspective, to put her out there,” Clinton’s top aide said. “We've always been perplexed about the gap between what people see of her ... and what she actually is and who she is.”
That’s why Reines is very thankful for how the “Hillary” documentary was able to accurately predict Clinton. “Everyone is watching this movie, and it's fantastic,” he said. “The only criticism I have of the movie is that it's only four hours. It could be six, 10 hours, and I'd be riveted.”
Political watchers have wondered why Hillary Clinton only chose now to release the documentary. There are those who surmised that it might be because Clinton is not seeking political office this time.
But if she were to say that she wants to be Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders’ running mate at this point, Reines predicted that there will likely be a “collective groan from the media.” Perhaps to assure that she is not interested in seeking a political position at the moment, Clinton hasn’t endorsed any candidate for president in 2020.
“It's not entirely within our power to make everyone open-minded about her,” Reines said. “When people are open-minded about her, they absolutely will see her in a different way.”
