‘Hawaii Five-O’ season 7’s episode 10, entitled “Ka Luhi” or “The Burden,” is set to follow the team as they reopen a decades-old case following the emergence of a witness. Meanwhile, Masi Oka talked about his impending exit from the long-running series as Dr. Max Bergman.
The synopsis for “The Burden” posted on Broadway World reads, “Five-0 investigates the 10-year-old cold case of a missing teen when a boy suffering from PTSD undergoes hypnosis and realizes he may have witnessed her murder.
Also, Danny's (Scott Caan) sister, Bridget (guest star Missy Peregrym), visits Oahu for a business conference, and he suspects that she may be getting too close to a co-worker.”
The incoming episode is set to follow the team as they re-open a decades old case after a witness opens up about remembering details of the murder. According to Game N Guide, the case may have something to do with a previous one featured, wherein the team tracked down the perpetrator behind Jerry’s (Jorge Garcia) friend Susie’s murder.
Meanwhile, a series regular is set to leave the series since he first appeared on season 1. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Masi Oka talked about his departure as series regular.
When asked about his decision to exit the series, he replied, “I just thought the character went through a major journey. He got married, now he’s going off to Africa, so I think character-wise I felt like Max had done too much of everything he can do. And we’ve been so blessed to work for seven years on a great show, but a lot of my business has been in Los Angeles and Japan and it’s been increasingly difficult to really commute to Hawaii.”
Oka continued, “I’m probably the only one who really commutes to Hawaii, maybe 18 times a year round trip. It got to the point where the producers were very gracious enough to — like we talked about it and we thought Max was entering his journey and they allowed me, kind of like for my health as well, to be able to take a reprieve from being on the show.”
He admitted that he was open to his character getting killed off on the show if it helps with good ratings. He also expressed that he was “saddened, but happy” while filming his final episode.
The 41-year old Japanese-American actor was first introduced as a recurring character in season 1. His character, Dr. Max Bergman, is a Chief Medical Examiner who has assisted Five-0 in solving crimes. He was promoted to series regular in season 2.
‘Hawaii Five-O’ season 7’s episode 10, entitled “Ka Luhi” or “The Burden,” is scheduled to air on CBS on December 9, 2016. It was directed by Carlos Bernard and written by Helen Shang and Zoe Robyn. It will be followed by episode 11, entitled "Ka'ili Aku" or "Snatchback," scheduled for December 16.
