‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actress Caterina Scorsone revealed that she was pregnant with her second child with husband Rob Giles. She admitted that Shonda Rhimes won’t be writing in the baby for Amelia and Owen’s storyline.
According to ET, Scorsone recently confirmed the news of her second pregnancy with husband Rob Giles at the Disney/ABC Television Critics Association party at the Beverly Hilton last August 4. She gushed that they were “very, very excited” for their second bundle of joy. When asked about the baby’s gender, she admitted that they were still keeping that a secret.
The 34-year old Canadian actress is already the mother to Eliza, who she gave birth to last July 2012. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes wrote her first pregnancy into the storyline of her character in the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ spin-off television series ‘Private Practice’. In a tragic moment in the spin-off series, Amelia gave birth to a child with no brain.
Scorsone’s Amelia was last seen getting married to on-screen husband Owen, portrayed by Kevin McKidd. When asked if her second pregnancy will also be written into the storyline of the incoming season, she replied, "I don't think so. We're picking up the season immediately after we left off, which was the wedding where Amelia was not pregnant.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, season 13 will pick up immediately after the events of Amelia and Owen’s wedding night from the preceding season. Scorsone admitted, “I think they don’t want to burn through all that story, but I also think that last time they wrote my pregnancy in, and I think Shonda [Rhimes] is going to give me a break on this one.”
She added, “They’re definitely going to have to do some fun hiding… Super camera work and super wardrobe time.”
Scorsone revealed that Amelia and Owen will have to deal with their whirlwind marriage in season 13. She said, “The rapidity with which they got married is going to be a piece of their story… It took that level of spontaneity to get them down the aisle. If they had waited any longer, the nerves would have won. But now they have to figure out how to be married. That’s a big question for anybody, let alone two people who are deeply wounded.”
She continued, “A lot of their story this year will be negotiating this whole different dynamic, sharing a life and being vulnerable when you’re terrified of all of that stuff… I think it’s going to be a lot of really pithy conversations about what this new way of being is. I hope we get to explore how complicated and messy and sexy marriage can be. A lot of the time the story ends at ‘I do.’ As a lot of people know, that’s the beginning of the story.”
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is a critically-acclaimed medical drama television series created by Shonda Rhimes. It premiered on ABC on March 2005 and went on to become one of television’s highest-rated dramas in the 18-49 demographic. Season 13 is scheduled to premiere on the network on September 22, 2016.
