‘Ghostbusters’ rebooted theme song was recently released by Sony. It is the main track for the upcoming reboot directed Paul Feig. Meanwhile, the film is projected to earn $40-50 million for its North American premiere scheduled for July.

According to Billboard, Fall Out Boy collaborated with Missy Elliot for a rebooted ‘Ghostbusters’ theme song with a track entitled “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)”.

The original 1984 song was first recorded by Ray Parker Jr. and was featured on the supernatural comedy film that starred Bill Murray, Dan Arkroyd, and Harold Ramis as three parapsychologists who started a ghost catching service based in New York City. Parker Jr.’s song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on August 1984 and stayed at the top spot for three whole weeks.

It was also nominated for Best Original Song at the 57th Academy Awards presented on March 1985 in Los Angeles but ultimately lost out to Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You”. It is continually referenced in the film adaptations as well as in the cartoon series.

Fall Out Boy’s remade the theme song in an edgier rock tune with rap verses performed by Missy Elliot and an "I ain't afraid of no ghosts" hook in place of Parker Jr.’s horn section. The track was released by Sony on Spotify and eventually rolled out on YouTube. The ‘Ghostbusters’ soundtrack also features songs from various artists including 5 Seconds of Summer, Pentatonix, Wolf Alice, and Elle King.

Paul Feig’s all-female reboot was the topic of casting controversy since it was first announced that comediennes Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones would portray the new protagonists. According to Forbes, Sony’s chairman Tom Rothman remained optimistic that the negativity surrounding their upcoming remake was “the best thing that ever happened.”

Rothman said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re in the national debate, thank you… Can we please get some more haters to say stupid things?” It was presumed that even the negative publicity could boost the film’s popularity especially on its opening weekend.

According to /Film, tracking numbers revealed that Sony’s film could earn an estimated $40-50 million on its opening weekend in North America. It was also reported that it was quite popular among females over the age of 25. The studio is yet to release its biggest marketing push before the scheduled release on July 15.

‘Ghostbusters’ is an upcoming supernatural horror-comedy film co-written and directed by Paul Feig. It is produced under Columbia Pictures, LStar Capital, Village Roadshow Pictures, The Montecito Picture Company and Pascal Pictures and is distributed by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Releasing in the United States.
