‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is set to feature a more “powerful” Sansa as hinted by actress Sophie Turner. Meanwhile, preliminary talks for a possible HBO spin-off series has been confirmed.
According to Cinema Blend, Turner hinted where Sansa Stark’s story will be headed in the incoming season. The 20-year old English actress addressed her character’s rise in power from season 6 saying, “At the end of the season, Sansa gets a taste of power --- and it's the first time that she's had that ever, really. She feels like it's deserved because she did so much for Jon and the North, so when she saves the day and doesn't get any recognition for it, it was like she had that first taste of power and then was immediately stripped of it.”
She continued, “She was stripped of the respect that she really feels she deserves. She was trying to give her input to Jon and trying to be a collaborative leader, but it's difficult when it's a patriarchy and when there's sexism. It would be a real adjustment for Jon to listen to her and do what she says. So she was looking to Littlefinger like, oh, you're right. Maybe that pretty picture you painted of me on the throne and you by my side isn't such a bad one.”
It seems that Sansa may prove to be a force to be reckoned with in season 7 but it remains unclear whether she will continue to ally with her bastard brother Jon Snow following the events of the episode “Battle of the Bastards.” Perhaps she may consider joining Petyr Baelish a.k.a. Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) in his quest for glory in claiming the Seven Kingdoms under his own rule.
In season 6, Sansa reunited with her long-lost brother at Castle Black and strategized a plan of attack against House Bolton, specifically Ramsay (Iwan Rheon). Jon seemingly ignored Sansa’s advice and went on his own plan but ultimately found himself on the losing end of the battle. Sansa ultimately saved the day by bringing in the Knights of the Vale with Littlefinger’s help.
Turner teased that Sansa may rise to power on her own in season 7. She said, “You wonder if it's just a smile because it's her first kill, because this man is out of her life, or whether she's going to get a taste for it. Whether she enjoyed it. Whether it's a power trip. But she definitely is a lot more powerful, and it'll be very interesting to see how she handles that coming up this season.”
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that preliminary talks for a possible ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off series are currently underway. According to Digital Spy, HBO's CEO Richard Plepler echoed sentiments that talks of a prequel series saying, "Right now we're focused on finishing the series with the kind of energy and excitement that everyone has come to expect. We're going to do that while at the same time parallel processing very embryonic stages of other possibilities."
‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in mid-2017.
