Over five years have gone since “GTA V” was released, but no official word has been out yet about its highly anticipated predecessor “GTA 6.” But despite Rockstar Games’ silence, many rumors have been spiraling online suggesting that “GTA 6” could feature Vice City as its main location and an all-new female protagonist.
“GTA 6” Returns to Vice City?
Avid fans of the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise are likely familiar with Vice City. It is one of the features that have been in the video game series since the late ‘90s. The rumored “GTA 6” location is a fictional place, but developers from Rockstar Games drew heavy inspiration from the city of Miami.
There are reports saying “GTA 6” is referred to as “Project Americas” within the premises of Rockstar Games and that it will be based in Miami. With that, some believe that “GTA 6” could be returning to Vice City.
Female Protagonist: A Series First in “GTA 6”?
One of the highly rumored and suggested changes in the “GTA” franchise is the inclusion of a female protagonist. In a video game series that is obviously oozing with machismo, it would be a major modification to finally introduce a female main protagonist on the cover of “GTA 6.”
On the other hand, developers have also stated that they are open to the idea of having a female lead in one of the upcoming “GTA” games. Whether or not the developers think “GTA 6” is the perfect time to implement that change is still unknown.
However, it can be recalled that in 2013, “GTA” co-writer Dan Houser said in an interview with The Guardian, “In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course. We just haven't found the right game for it yet, but it's one of the things that we always think about. It didn't feel natural for [‘GTA V’] but definitely for the right game in the future – with the right themes, it could be fantastic.”
