Rumors that Ellen DeGeneres is a bad person behind the camera surfaced in March. It started when comedian Kevin Porter asked his followers to post stories about their experiences and labeled “The Ellen Show” host as notoriously one of the meanest people alive.”
As per The Independent, those who responded on Porter’s thread were mostly people who have worked with Ellen DeGeneres. Their revelations were shocking since the host is known to help people. She also invites deserving unknown individuals to guest on her show, and for some, their exposure helped them start a career.
This is why the allegations and behind-the-scene stories against her surprised a lot of people. More people posted, and various ways of how they were treated badly by Ellen were exposed. Someone said that they would ask to leave the workplace if they speak to Ellen without chewing gum first.
“After working for Ellen for over 5 years, a close friend left to have a baby and found a different job on a union network show, Ellen BEGGED her to return then fired her after 1 week, no reason given,” she wrote. “That friend struggled for long time with new baby and no benefits.”
Another one continued the story about the gum. LGBT TV writer, Benjamin Siemon shared on Twitter: “She has a ‘sensitive nose’ so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower.”

Globe magazine claimed that after being labeled as “new Queen of Mean,” Ellen DeGeneres is now suffering from severe anxiety and she can’t sleep as well. The host got even more depressed when the hashtag #ripellen trended on social media. There were also memes and she started to be the subject of jokes.
