Many fans are now thrilled for the upcoming premiere of “Dune: Part Two” movie. It's hard to believe that “Dune: Part One” was just two years ago, but it's almost time to return to the desert planet of Arrakis and fight for the universe's most valuable resource.
The “Dune” films are based on a series of novels by Frank Herbert, the first of which was published in 1965. The series comprises 15 volumes and is set in a far-future society ruled by an emperor-led government. The two-part movie chronicles the events of the original novel. Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming “Dune: Part Two” film.
‘Dune: Part Two’ Release Date
“Dune 2,” also known as “Dune: Part Two,” is set to be released on March 15, 2024. The sequel was originally scheduled for November 17, but it was bumped forward by two weeks when Marvel revealed that its “Blade” revival would be delayed until 2024.
“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is planned to premiere on November 17, and the two highly anticipated pictures would've clashed in theaters if “Dune: Part Two” had been released in early November, per Dexerto.
Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Warner Bros. postponed “Dune: Part Two” till next year. As a result, the film's release date has been moved back four months to March 2024. The bad news is that, with the end of the actors' strike, the stars of “Dune: Part Two” could have used the next week to promote the film in keeping with its original release date.
‘Dune: Part Two’ Cast
Most of the original cast members are expected to make a comeback in “Dune: Part Two film, including Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban, Javier Bardem as Stilgar and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.
While Timothee played a significant role in Part One as one of the main protagonists, Zendaya's character will have considerably more to accomplish in the sequel. During the previous film, Timothee’s character mostly saw her in visions, but the two will ultimately have a meaningful romance in “Dune: Part Two.”
Along with recurring characters, the cast includes a number of new faces, per EpicFlix. Florence Pugh and Austin Butler are two of the most famous newcomers in “Dune: Part Two.” Florence has been cast as Princess Irulan, the emperor's daughter who is attempting to retain her father's dominion over the cosmos. Austin, on the other hand, will portray Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Stellan Skarsgrd's character's brutal, sadistic nephew who is hellbent on eliminating Paul and his comrades.
‘Dune: Part Two’ Spoilers
The plot of “Dune: Part Two” will follow the second half of Herbert's books, although this summary will not contain any spoilers. Paul Atreides and his mother, Lady Rebecca, meet Chani and the Fremen after his family is ripped apart at the end of Dune: Part One. The two sides struggle together to bring peace to Arrakis while repelling savage attacks by their foes, particularly Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and his nephews.
Because Herbert's work is 412 pages long, director Denis Villeneuve decided to divide it into two parts because, while this isn't the longest novel to be adapted for film, the world within it is very complex. “Dune: Part One” served as a world-building vehicle, whereas “Dune: Part Two” will focus on the social and political interactions of its large cast of people.
