Donald Trump hit the Mueller investigation on the alleged Russian interference on the 2016 US elections. The President of the United States said on Wednesday that the inquiry was an attempted coup against his presidency.
The POTUS further said that the probe on the conspiracy claims between his campaign and Russia started illegally and everything about it was crooked. He said that there were dirty cops and bad people and mentioned the names of former FBI executive, agent, and lawyer.
“This was an attempted coup. This was an attempted takedown of a president. And we beat them, we beat them,” BBC News quoted Donald Trump as saying.
He added, “So the Mueller report when they talk about obstruction, we fight back. And you know why we fight back? Because I knew how illegal this whole thing was, it was a scam.”
Donald Trump made the comments before the press at the White House South Lawn just a day after Attorney General William Barr said that he would release a redacted version of Robert Mueller’s report. The investigation cleared the US president and his aides of collusion with the Russians.
Donald Trump also remarked that everyone knew from the start that no conspiracy ever occurred. He did not coordinate or conspired with the Kremlins and the claims were just meant to smear his reputation and presidency.
Trump ended his statements by saying the whole thing was also treason, "Because this was an illegal witch hunt, and everybody knew it. And they knew it too. And they got caught.”
“What they did was treason, what they did was terrible, what they did was against our Constitution,” the POTUS said.
The Mueller report was submitted to the US attorney general last month and the investigation did not find proof that Donald Trump colluded with Russia in the 2016 elections in the U.S. Also, there was no evidence that the White House obstructed justice during the investigation.
