Defeating Vandal Savage in the season 1 finale of “DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow” required the heroic sacrifice of villain Captain Cold. Although he lived, it seems that season 2 will not involve much of the cool character. Since Savage is no longer around, it seems that Hawkgirl and Hawkman will no longer be as involved with the team as they were in season 1 either.
Marc Guggenheim, co-creator of the show, spoke to Deadline recently. He said that the most natural thing to happen with the two winged characters was for them to finally take a rest after their long-time enemy who has been pursuing them throughout the centuries is finally gone. If they got involved in season 2 from the get-go, it would feel forced.
"After 4,000 years, they were no longer under the specter of Vandal, and we felt they need some time off,” Guggenheim said. “Bringing them back to the team as soon as the beginning of season 2 felt premature."
Aside from the departure of the three characters though is the introduction of new ones; namely, the members of the Justice Society of America or JSA. The season finale saw Hourman arrive and introduce himself, warning the legends of a threat that was coming to kill them.
Comic book fans will be familiar with the connection of JSA with the Justice League, the team comprised of big names like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. That seems to be something to look forward to down the road.
With regards to who the next baddie will be, Guggenheim couldn’t confirm or deny anything. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, all he could do was provide vague hints.
"All I'll really say about the nemesis in season 2 is Vandal Savage looks like a walk in the park compared to what the Legends will be facing," Guggenheim said.
“DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow” season 2 will premiere on The CW this fall.
