China has issued a strong warning against any economic or trade agreements made at its expense, responding to reports that the U.S. is pressuring other nations to curb trade with China in exchange for tariff exemptions. In a statement on Monday, China’s Ministry of Commerce emphasized its support for resolving trade disputes through equal and fair consultation. However, it made clear that it will "firmly oppose" any attempts to strike deals that damage China's economic interests.
"If any country pursues such a deal, China will take resolute and reciprocal countermeasures," the ministry stated. The comments come amid growing concerns that the Trump administration may seek to use tariff incentives as leverage to isolate China economically. Reports suggest Washington is actively encouraging its trade partners to cut ties or reduce imports from China in return for avoiding U.S. tariffs.
Beijing stressed that it is fully capable and determined to safeguard its legitimate rights and economic interests. The message reflects China’s hardening stance amid escalating global trade tensions and signals that it will not remain passive if targeted by discriminatory trade actions.
This firm response from China could raise the stakes in international trade negotiations and adds a new layer of complexity for countries caught between maintaining U.S. trade ties and preserving economic relations with the world’s second-largest economy. The developments come as China continues to defend its global trade position amid increasing geopolitical and economic pressure from the U.S. administration.
As global markets watch closely, China’s vow to retaliate may influence future trade talks and reshape the dynamics of international commerce moving forward.
