The gameplay demo of “Borderlands 3” revealed multiple aspects of the looter shooter title and highlighted several key elements that will be integral for its success. One of the most prominent mechanics that immediately took the audience’s attention was speed and mobility.
In “Borderlands 3,” players are now able to jump and slide through obstacles, increasing the game’s pacing and gameplay. But it’s not just the players that have been injected with this element as enemy units have also been made to move faster as well, IGN reported.
“Enemies are a lot more mobile [in Borderlands 3] than they were in previous games,” said lead enemy designer Josh Jeffcoat. “Most of the places that the player can mantle up and get up to a higher level, an enemy can just follow you right up there too, so psycho bandits are going to be able to chase you and just get right up in your face no matter where you go trying to hide.”
Enemy designs have also seen a massive overhaul, providing them with variations of outfits so that players won’t feel they’re simply putting down one similar threat after another. Jeffcoat said that development of this aspect has been one of their top priorities, going as far as isolating enemies in a given location to increase immersion. “Borderlands 3” is touted to have a vast array of enemies, more than what can be found in “Borderlands 2” and every single piece of DLC combined.
As such, players should expect to be swarmed on multiple occasions, especially since Jeffcoat said that they wanted to emphasize pressure during missions. Regarding its release date, “Borderlands 3” will hit the shelves this coming September. However, it will only be exclusive in the Epic Game Store for six months, a decision that was met with considerable negativity and even outright hostility.
