‘Bones’ season 12 is set to feature the return of Sully, Brennan’s ex-boyfriend introduced in season 2. His return may affect Brennan’s marriage with Booth as teased by executive producer Michael Peterson.
According to Buddy TV, Eddie McClintock is set to return as Dr. Temperance Brennan’s (Emily Deschanel) ex-boyfriend FBI Special Agent Tim “Sully” Sullivan. Sully was introduced in season 2 and worked alongside Brennan when Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) was away for therapy. The two eventually began dating as the show progressed.
The character’s first appearance was in season 2’s episode 13, titled “The Girl in the Gator.” He was last seen in season 2’s episode 16, titled “The Boneless Bride in the River.”
Sully and Brennan had a brief yet intense love affair, which ended with Brennan turning down Sully’s offer of sailing the Caribbean with him aboard a new boat that he named after her. He then told Brennan that he would return after a year’s time.
Executive producer Michael Peterson revealed during a recent interview with TV Line that Sully’s return would affect Brennan and Booth’s relationship as he will reemerge during a tense period between the two.
Peterson teased, “He comes back at a time in Brennan’s life when she is emotionally unbalanced… She and Booth are going through a very difficult time, so it’s a strange time for this love from the past to show up. And it’s going to have some slight reverberations. I’ll be curious to see what the fans think.”
It was speculated that Sully may use Brennan’s vulnerability to his advantage and break up her marriage with Booth.
‘Bones’ season 12 is scheduled to premiere on Fox on January 3, 2017. Episode 1 is titled "The Hope in the Horror" and was directed by Emily Deschanel and written by Michael Peterson. It will be followed by episode 2, titled "The Brain in the Bot," scheduled to air on January 10.
Sully’s episode is slated to air sometime in February 2013.
