BTS and Big Hit Entertainment further showed their support to the #BlackLivesMatter by making a donation of whooping $1 million last week. The hand out comes after the South Korean boy group showed that they are one with the people in calling for the end of racial discrimination and injustice.
BTS’ generosity acknowledged by the movement
In a tweet on June 4, BTS clearly stated that they condemn violence and ask everyone to “stand together” in times like this. The huge monetary donation was transferred to the Black Lives Matter movement last week and this was confirmed on Friday.
“Black people all over the world are in pain at this moment from the trauma of centuries of oppression,” Kailee Scales, managing director for Black Lives Matter, told Variety when asked for comments over the contribution of the world’s most popular boy band. “We are moved by the generosity of BTS and allies all over the world who stand in solidarity in the fight for Black lives.”
Other Kpop stars who made personal donations include GOT7’s Mark Tuan who pledged $7,000 to the George Floyd Memorial fund, rapper pH-1 gave out $3,000 to Black Lives Matter and DAY6’s Jae gave out $1,000 to the Minnesota Freedom Fund. They have American backgrounds thus the pledges were directed in the cities where they reside.
The ARMY fan base donates too
BTS’s fandom called the ARMY is one of the most active and extravagant fan clubs in the Kpop scene. They are known to give grand gifts and organize amazing events for the members and now they have come together again to organize a fund-raising project that aims to match the amount of what BTS and Big Hit Entertainment donated.
As per Forbes, the ARMYs started trending the #MatchAMillion hashtag to ask their co-ARMYs to donate whatever amount they could. With local fanbases worldwide, it was amazing that fans of BTS were able to gather more than a million dollar in a short time. It was revealed that within 24 hours, they have already surpassed the $817,000 mark so no wonder they donated over $1 million last weekend.
