Apple has set a release date for its much anticipated spatial computing device, Apple Vision Pro. The mixed reality headset costs $3,499 and will be available in the United States on Friday, February 2, with Canada and the United Kingdom following later this year.
Apple Vision Pro: Here's What You Get in the Box
Apple has not yet published all the details regarding the device's configuration possibilities ahead of pre-orders, which start on Friday, January 19, as per MacRumors. However, we do know what comes in the box with every Apple Vision Pro.
- Battery Pack: An external power supply for the headset, allowing for longer usage hours and portability. According to Apple, the battery can last for 2 hours of normal use and 2.5 hours of 2D video playback on a single charge.
-
USB-C Power Adapter: The adapter charges the headset's battery pack, ensuring that the device is always ready for usage. It may also allow the Vision Pro to be connected to an external power source for longer periods of time than the portable battery permits. However, Apple has not confirmed this.
-
USB-C Charging Cable: This cable connects the headset or battery pack to the USB-C power adapter for charging.
-
Two Light Seal Cushions: These cushions are available in two sizes and offer additional comfort and light-blocking capacity, guaranteeing a snug fit around the face to prevent light leaking.
-
Cover for Front Glass: When not in use, the cover protects the headset's front glass from scratches and damage.
-
Polishing Cloth: A soft cloth intended to clean the headset's lenses and front glass without producing scratches or damage.
-
Solo Knit Band and Dual Loop Band: These two styles of headbands are intended for user comfort and customization. The Solo Knit Band is a single band that wraps around the back of the head, whereas Apple claims the Dual Loop Band has "a pair of adjustable upper and lower straps for a personalized fit."
-
Light Seal: The Light Seal is constructed of soft material and is likely available in a variety of shapes and sizes, bending to adjust to the user's face for a perfect fit. This component helps to filter out external light, which improves the headset's immersive experience.
-
Vision Pro Headset: The headgear is the main component of the Vision Pro system, and it includes superior eye and hand tracking technology via cameras, extremely high-resolution displays for each eye, speakers on either side and an EyeSight front-facing screen. The headset includes a minimum of 256GB of inbuilt storage for applications and media.
Apple and ZEISS Introduce Customizable Optical Inserts for Vision Pro, Enhancing User Experience
Apple will provide optional optical inserts for customers who regularly use glasses, but these will not be included in the box and will be sold separately beginning at $99. Apple has partnered with ZEISS to provide inserts that may be adjusted to each individual's eyesight needs.
The inserts magnetically attach to the Vision Pro lenses, allowing for accurate viewing and eye tracking. Glasses wearers will need a valid prescription to obtain the inserts, though Apple warns that not all prescriptions will be supported. Optical inserts can be ordered online from Apple's website.
Apple wants to start offering Vision Pro demonstrations in the United States. Apple retail stores on launch day, as per The Verge. Apple said demo hours will be available throughout the weekend on a first-come, first-served basis, with signups beginning at 8:00 a.m. on February 2.
