‘American Horror Story’ season 6 will be set in two timelines but will take place mostly in the present day. With the Slenderman plot debunked, the show’s new theme has been revealed to involve children.
According to Den of Geek, FX President John Landgraf teased the incoming season’s timeline saying that it will be set mostly in the present day even though it would also feature the past.
The series is known for jumping back and forth through various time periods: AHS Murder House was set in the present day, AHS Asylum was set in the 1960s, AHS Coven was set in the present day, AHS Freak Show was set in the 1950s, and the most recent AHS Hotel was set in the present day once more.
Landgraf said, “[Season 6] is set in the present although with echoes of the past… It’s set in two time periods … but principally in the present.” Then he added, “Ryan [Murphy] will kill me if I tease anything.”
FX renewed ‘American Horror Story’ for another season back in November. Landgraf issued a statement that said, “With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series… From Murder House to Hotel, AHS has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show -- while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.”
Various plot speculations have emerged regarding the incoming season including the involvement of Slender Man, a fictional supernatural character that went viral on the internet. He is depicted as an unnaturally tall and thin man with no face and wears a suit. He is also extremely dangerous as he is mysterious.
However, this rumor turned out to be untrue. According to Express, showrunner Ryan Murphy teased that the new setting will have something to do with children but he didn’t exactly elaborate. Murphy said, "Both things that we’re writing right now – we haven’t declared a winner – will have a different form, so we’re excited about that. We’ll talk about it soon, but we haven’t landed on it yet.”
He added, "If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying.”
Murphy’s statement quickly fueled new rumors of a ‘Children of the Corn’-like season or perhaps an orphanage full of creepy children.
Cast members appearing in previous season will make it back for the sixth including Lady Gaga, who played the Countess in season 5, and Angela Bassett, who appeared in three seasons.
Other actors expected to return to ‘American Horror Story’ include Evan Peters, Wes Bentley, Kathy Bates, Matt Bomer, Finn Wittrock, Chloe Sevigny, and Sarah Paulson.
