‘American Crime’ season 3’s episode 3 is set to follow Luis as he uncovers more vital information on his missing son. Meanwhile, creator John Ridley expressed his concern for the season’s illegal immigration storyline amidst the real-life political drama in the United States during a recent interview.
The synopsis for episode 3 posted on TV Guide reads, “Luis (Benito Martinez) gets to the Hesby Farm and learns important information about his missing son, while Coy's (Connor Jessup) outlook on life is forever changed when he witnesses a terrible accident.
Elsewhere, Shae (Ana Mulvoy-Ten) reconsiders her decision to stay in a shelter; Kimara (Regina King) hears difficult personal news; and Jeanette (Felicity Huffman) and JD (Tim DeKay) decide to attend a rally for workers.”
The upcoming episode will follow Luis in Hesby Farm as he discovers more important information about his son. Luis needed work after arriving in North Carolina from Mexico as he searched for his son, who has gone missing. Jeanette and JD of the Hensby Farm will also contemplate on attending a rally for workers.
The primary focus of season 3 is to depict illegal immigration as well as the struggle of undocumented workers in rural America. There is a severe lack of options for the fictional locals of Alamance County, North Carolina as foreign farms compete with the local ones. This leads farms to take advantage of undocumented workers, lured in with the hope of stable jobs despite the lack of care and proper pay.
According to Telegram, creator John Ridley expressed concern for his show’s new focus on the controversial topic of illegal immigration considering the real state of affairs in the United States as of the present under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
He said during a phone interview, "As someone who tells stories, you want to feel there is a sense of urgency in what you're saying. But it brings me no joy. I don't feel, in being so close to reality, that we're presenting it in a space where people are necessarily prepared for thoughtful conversation."
Ridley continued, “How we, as a society, can come together when talking about immigration and labor is not easy… But you can address those problems without demonizing, without removing the human element. When the talk revolves around separating mothers and their children, when you remove the sanctity of family, when you say you want to be punitive, that is not problem-solving in a human way. We should deal with it in a way that represents the best of us."
‘American Crime’ season 3’s episode 3 is scheduled to air on ABC on March 26, 2017. It was directed by Victoria Mahoney and written by Janine Salinas Schoenberg and Moisés Zamora. It will be followed by episode 4, directed by Steph Green and written by Sonay Hoffman and scheduled to be released on April 2.
