‘Alien: Covenant’ has officially completed filming in Australia. A new behind-the-scenes photograph revealed Katherine Waterston’s Daniels resembling Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley from the original ‘Alien’ cinematic series. Another photograph also showed Danny McBride in a spaceship’s cockpit.
According to Game Spot, principal photography has officially ended in Australia. The news was revealed through the series’ official Twitter account @AlienAnthology on July 20. A new behind-the-scenes photograph of director Ridley Scott and lead actress Katherine Waterston was also released together with the announcement.
In the new black and white photograph, the two looked to be sharing some candid off-screen time. The Independent noted that Waterston’s look - complete with short hair, wife beater top, and a huge weapon hanging over one shoulder - likened her to the ‘Alien’ franchise’s iconic protagonist Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver.
Waterston is set to portray a character named Daniels but not much is known about her. Previous rumors suggested that Daniels will provide a direct connection from the ‘Prometheus’ films to the ‘Alien’ cinematic series although this is yet to be confirmed.
It is also unknown whether Daniels will be the series’ newest main antagonist or if Noomi Rapace’s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw will continue to stay in the lead. Other actors joining Waterston and Rapace in the new cast include returning lead Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, and Uli Latukefu among others.
Meanwhile, another recently released behind-the-scenes photograph featured McBride in a spaceship’s cock pit. According to Bloody Disgusting, the actor and comedian is set to play one of the crew members aboard the colony ship Covenant on their way to an undiscovered remote planet.
‘Alien: Covenant’ is an upcoming science-fiction and horror film scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017. It is directed and co-produced by Ridley Scott and written by Michael Green and Jack Paglen and re-written by John Logan. It is produced by David Giler, Walter Hill, Makrk Huffam, and Michael Schaefer.
The film is intended as the direct sequel of 2012’s ‘Prometheus’ and the second installment in the ‘Alien’ prequel series. Its predecessor received general favorable reviews and grossed $403.35 million worldwide at the box office.
