AirPods Pro is possibly one of the most requested gifts this holiday season. But before people place an order to the elusive true-wireless earbuds, it should be noted that Apple will not repair broken AirPods Pro.
Why Apple will not repair broken AirPods Pro
AirPods was not the first true wireless earbuds to hit the market. But it is safe to say that introducing an Apple-made pair of earphones that entirely has no wires connecting them made this particular device popular and in-demand.
However, ever since the first AirPods was released, its repairability has always been in question. It became a much more discussed topic when AirPods Pro was released, especially when it was confirmed that Apple would not offer repair services for the earbuds.
Washington Post earlier reported that AirPods have a short life span as its lithium-ion battery tends to die after a couple of years. But instead of repairing them, Apple has been offering to replace the worn-out units. It turns out that it is the same case for AirPods Pro.
Wired’s Lauren Goode shared Apple’s confirmation that it would also just replace AirPods Pro units instead of repairing them. This may sound shocking to some, but tech-savvy individuals were actually not surprised.
Apple reportedly cited AirPods Pro’s size and the process required in repairing the earbuds. So instead of going through a very tedious repair method, Apple will “just replace” AirPods Pro that would have issues over time.
AirPods Pro has a much smaller bodywork than its predecessor. It could also explain why the latest model has a tad, shorter listening time than the first two generations of AirPods. There is a possibility that this would also affect AirPods Pro’s battery life span.
AirPods Pro is still very hard to find
As mentioned, AirPods Pro is a very elusive product this holiday season – just about a couple of months since its release date. Official websites of major retail stores, including Apple’s own online shop, do not have a unit of AirPods Pro to sell.
Apple’s website currently indicates that the AirPods Pro will be available in stores on Jan. 28, 2020, and deliveries are slated to begin on Jan. 27. A pair of the latest true-wireless earbuds cost $249.
