AirPods 2 is Apple’s new product that is touted to end the debate of all wireless headphones. However, there is a lot of skepticism surrounding this claim given that news regarding the device is few and far in between.
And if there is any new info on AirPods 2, most of it comes in the form of rumors. Among these rumors is the claim that the earphones are going to have a wireless charging technology courtesy of its new case, Forbes reported.
This is but the only positive info regarding the AirPods 2 as most of the whispers in the community hints that it’ll be similar to Google’s Pixel Buds. Both products are priced similarly, the sound quality is the same, neither fits well on the ears and are designed to be used respectively on each of the company’s flagship phones.
If this is the case, then the AirPods 2 will not do well in the market given that Pixel Buds was received coldly by end users. The good thing about the device is that Apple can still steer off the pitfalls that the Pixel Buds have fallen into.
But the sales performance of the AirPods 2 might take a hit since a lot of negative rumors are buffeting it. This is especially true since some users have discovered it can be used as a spying device. With Apple currently in hot waters due to the FaceTime vulnerability, it’s not a good look.
For the unaware, users have discovered that you can spy on someone with an iPhone by simply calling them through FaceTime and eavesdropping on whatever conversation they’re engaged in, 9to5mac reported. What makes this issue alarming is that even when the person being called doesn’t pick up the call, the one who is calling can still hear at the other end. They can even peak through the front-facing camera of the phone. Granted, the AirPods 2 doesn’t have such a bug but with this narrative already brewing in the community, Apple would do well to address this situation before it gets out of hand.
As for the release date of the AirPods 2, it’s being speculated to drop in March. Along with the earphones, the AirPower is supposedly among the devices that will be launched in the same month solidifying the wireless charging rumors surrounding the device.
