“Age of Empires 4” will be unveiled by Microsoft soon and the RTS community is on the edge of their seat trying to contain their excitement for the much-awaited sequel. The Redmond-based company and Relic Entertainment are facing a lot of pressure to deliver hard on the fourth entry as there are literally millions of players who are eager to get their hands on the upcoming title.
While the features of “Age of Empires 4” is still being kept under wraps for now, we can assume that Relic and Microsoft will be taking some inspiration from other RTS titles that have cropped up through the years. A zoom-in feature, for instance, would be quite the feature for the sequel as it will further solidify the immersive experience for players, especially when they’re trying to finish the game’s campaign mode.
Age of Empires 4 could offer a unique experience for both casual and hardcore players
“Ancestors Legacy” and the “Total War” series are two games that have used this feature brilliantly, allowing players to freely scroll into the action as two factions mess each other up. Of course, the zoom-in feature won’t be used too much when fighting other players, but it will be an interesting option for “Age of Empires 4” all the same.
This is doubly true since the game will be showcasing different medieval armies ranging from Aztec Warriors and Native American fighters to Japanese Samurais and the British Redcoats. Zooming through each of these factions and scrutinizing the details on each army would offer an experience that’s rarely seen in the RTS genre. It’s also a great selling point for casual players as well. With regards to the event that is going to host the release date announcement of “Age of Empires 4,” nothing has been confirmed by Relic and Microsoft on this front.
Age of Empires 4 details to be revealed soon
Creative director Adam Isgreen said that they’re looking at either Gamescom or XO to showcase the sequel. The information that will be revealed for “Age of Empires 4” is expected to be quite extensive as hinted by Isgreen himself.
“We’ve got Gamescom coming up, and then XO later this year in London, so at the latest, you’ll hear more about ‘Age of Empires 4’ by XO. I will say that later this year, we will start taking the wraps off both ‘Age 3’ and ‘Age 4,’” Isgreen said. As for when the game will hit the shelves, it’ll likely arrive next year, perhaps on the tail end of 2020.
