In a recent appearance on Fox News, Monica Crowley, a former Trump administration official, cautioned Republicans against dismissing the possibility of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., making a bid for the presidency in 2028. Describing her as "young, vibrant, and connected to voters," Crowley highlighted the progressive congresswoman’s grassroots support and mastery of social media as formidable assets.
Crowley, who served as assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, joined guest host Lisa Boothe on The Ingraham Angle to discuss Ocasio-Cortez's growing influence. While the congresswoman has not publicly declared an intention to run for president, Crowley emphasized that Republicans should be wary of her potential candidacy.
A Rising Star in the Democratic Party
Since defeating long-time incumbent Joe Crowley in a surprise 2018 primary, Ocasio-Cortez—commonly referred to as "AOC"—has emerged as a prominent figure in the progressive movement. Known for her support of initiatives like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, AOC has also demonstrated a keen ability to connect with voters through social media and town hall events.
Boothe noted that Ocasio-Cortez’s constituents admire her accessibility and willingness to engage directly, traits often associated with former President Donald Trump. Crowley echoed this sentiment, acknowledging that AOC’s authenticity resonates with voters across demographic lines.
However, Crowley pointed out that the 2024 election, which saw Donald Trump win a second term, signaled the public’s rejection of the “radical left.” She expressed skepticism about the likelihood of a shift back to progressive policies within just four years.
Republican Strategy and Democratic Infighting
Crowley’s comments also served as a reminder of past miscalculations by the GOP. “Every time Republicans have underestimated the Democrats, we ended up with Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden,” she warned. “Let’s not do it again in four years.”
Ocasio-Cortez has been vocal about internal challenges facing the Democratic Party. Recently, she criticized what she described as a disconnect between party leadership and working-class Americans. Her fiery opposition to former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s rumored bid for Democratic National Committee chair underscored her progressive stance. “If you want to know the seed of the party's political crisis, that’s it,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Netizens React to AOC 2028 Speculation
Social media users were quick to weigh in on the possibility of an Ocasio-Cortez presidential run:
- @BlueWave2028: “AOC is exactly the fresh energy the Democratic Party needs. She’s fearless and relatable.”
- @ConservativeWatch: “The GOP better not sleep on AOC. She’s not just a TikTok star; she’s a real threat.”
- @ProgressivePride: “President Ocasio-Cortez has a nice ring to it. 2028 can’t come soon enough!”
- @MAGAForever: “We can’t let socialism take over. AOC would be a disaster for America!”
- @IndependentThinker: “Love her or hate her, AOC knows how to connect with people. That makes her dangerous in politics.”
- @WorkingClassHero: “Finally, a politician who actually listens to working people. AOC gives me hope for the future.”
