Chance the Rapper and Adele were the biggest winners at the 2017 Grammys held Sunday night.
Adele took home five trophies, including Album, Song, and Record of the Year, besting formidable nominees Drake, Justin Bieber, Lukas Graham, and Beyonce, whom she pulled a big upset. But the “Hello” singer instead paid tribute to her “dream and idol,” E! said.
When the British singer won Album of the Year, Adele, expressed her shock and basically told everyone how “Lemonade,” Beyonce’s album, should have won. She addressed the “Formation” singer, “You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you, I always have."
Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper won against Anderson .Paak, The Chainsmokers, Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris for Best New Artist. He also won Best Rap Performance for “No Problem” and Best Rap Album for “Coloring Book.” Chance was grateful for the win, considering that “Coloring Book” was a streaming-only album. He offered his win to indie artists everywhere, The Atlantic noted.
Beyonce may not have won the major awards, but the pregnant singer snagged covetable ones as well. Beyonce won Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Lemonade” and Best Music Video for “Formation,” BGR listed.
And when she took the stage for her much-awaited performance, Beyonce enthralled everyone, especially with her bare belly on display. The singer performance “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” featuring psychedelic holograms, an epic dinner table, anti-gravity chair movement, golden flower crowns, a battalion of handmaidens, Biblical imagery, among other things.
