“Overwatch” Updates: DDoS Attack, Gamer Lawsuit And Competitive Play Season 2

Since it was launched back in May, “Overwatch” has garnered a lot of attention for its superb gameplay, amazing characters, and the myriad of issues that dogged the game. This time around, players experienced difficulty in logging in because of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on Blizzard’s network platforms “Battle.net” and a gamer accused the company of breaking the law. Aside from those issues, the launch date for seasons 2 of “Competitive Play” has been revealed.

The latest DDoS attack on Battle.net has left players stranded, unable to login into games hosted by the site, including “Overwatch,” “Hearthstone,” and “World of Warcraft.” Blizzard sent out Tweets that they were still monitoring the situation for several hours after the attack was discovered, Hack Read reports. When the company finally did say that the problem has been resolved, some players Tweeted back that they still could not log in.

This is the third DDoS attack that has occurred since “Overwatch” launched back in May. In the last attacks, the group called PoodleCorp claimed responsibility. For the latest one, however, none have come forward.

Another issue that Blizzard might have to get on top of soon is the matter of potential criminal behavior by the company pointed out by the gamer with the “Battle.net” username “Jax.” According to “Jax,” Blizzard might have broken the law when it misled customers regarding in-game credit purchases, Gamespresso reports.

The problem specifically relates to the “Summer Game” skins that could only be obtained via loot boxes, which need to either be earned or essentially bought with real money. The user brought up the issue with a free legal network in the United Kingdom called Citizens Advice.

In response, the network told the user that they would have to contact Blizzard directly or file a lawsuit. If they don’t, nothing can be done.

Finally, Blizzard finally revealed the start date for seasons 2 of “Competitive Play” for “Overwatch” via Twitter. The event is slated for September 6, so that’s a date players will need to mark on their calendars.
