Dr. Davina Bird joined the University of Lincoln in 2021. She obtained her PhD in Economics from Loughborough University, where her thesis focused on analysing the impacts of mandatory refund policies on consumers and business competition. She also holds a MSc in Agriculture and Natural Resource Economics from West Virginia University, USA, and a BA in Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College, USA.
Before joining academia, Dr. Bird was a senior business analyst in the energy R&D sector and worked as a coordinator on a series of international knowledge exchange projects promoting clean energy collaborations between the USA and the People's Republic of China. After working in the private sector for a couple years, she returned to academia to pursue her passion for teaching.
Dr. Bird is interested in a wide array of topics related to how to balance societal welfare with economic and environmental sustainability. Current research activity is focused on the nexus of consumer protection and competition policy, as well as the economics of environmentally sustainable consumption.
