Darryl Carlton

Industry Fellow, Swinburne University of Technology
Darryl is completing his PhD on the subject of “Situational Incompetence: an investigation into the causes of failure of a large scale IT project”. In addition to his teaching and research at the Swinburne Business School he is on the adjunct faculty at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivosotok (Russia), and has lived and worked throughout Asia for nearly twenty years providing him with an international persepctive on entrepreneurship and information systems.

Darryl teaches ENT60007 - Project Management for Entrepreneurial Ventures

Darryl conducts resaerch in three areas:
(1) IT/IS Project Performance, and in particular the causes of project failure
(2) The Digital Competence of Boards of Directors (public companies) and Senior Executives (government institutions)
(3) The consequences and implications of project failure

Darryl has spent over forty years in the practice of information technology. He was the founder, CEO and Chief Architect of the worlds first SaaS ERP. He was Head of IT Strategy for Telstra, Head of Business Process Engineering for Optus, Chief Executive Officer for BizTone.com, Chief Information Officer for the Environment Protection Agency, IT Strategy Advisor to several Government Departments, and Head of Applications Development for one of the world’s largest internet service providers. Darryl holds a Graduate Diploma of Computing and Information Systems, a Masters of Business Information Technology(with Distinction), a Masters of Commerce (with Distinction), a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Member of the Australian Institute of Project Management.
