I currently serve as Entrepreneur in Residence at Binghamton University, helping students, faculty, staff and alumni launch new technology based ventures. These efforts are driven largely by my experience over the past 30 years in launching more than a dozen technology ventures, primarily in the field of medical devices.
As Director of the Clinical Science and Engineering Research Lab, our focus is on medical/healthcare device development. This work is motivated through an understanding of human physiology from a complex systems perspective, or how coupling in biological systems gives rise to emergent behaviors such as adaptation, growth, remodeling and repair. More specifically, our research addresses the question of how biophysical factors influence coupled physiologic systems, which sets the stage for us to investigate innovative approaches for addressing chronic health conditions which are based in mal-adaptation such as chronic pain, chronic fatigue, heart failure, osteoporosis, age related dementia, etc.
