An innovator in urban planning, transport and sustainable energy. I am a Curtin University Sustainabilty Program Research Associate and the Director Innovation at Economic Development Queensland.
My PhD looks at the knowledge economy through urban and public transport planning.
Cities in post-industrial economies are characterised by a multi-layered intensification of knowledge. This intensification occurs through:
• agglomeration of knowledge economic activity;
• human capital knowledge; and
• the means of knowledge exchange i.e. ICT and transport.
This thesis proposes an intensification of key walkable urban centres, particularly universities. Knowledge urban intensification is heavily reliant on rail and walking transport intensification. productivity. The intensification of ICT transferred knowledge through the shift from copper to optic fibre is analogous for the need for the intensification of human carried knowledge in denser urban places and the need to replace vehicle peak travel with high intensity public transport.
