A regulatory filing for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition was recently spotted. This could be hinting that its official retail release is coming soon. Meanwhile, the documents also confirmed there will be more RAM and internal storage variants for the upcoming device.
Documents for a device with model number M1807E8S was filed with the TENAA on July 4. The TENAA is a regulatory commission under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. Meanwhile, Gizmochina reports that the identifier refers to the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
This is further confirmed by the sample photos included in the filing. The TENAA filing includes photos of the device’s rear showing the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’s see-through design that had stirred some debates previously. Other expected specifications were confirmed by the TENAA listing, including a 2,248 x 1,080 display resolution on a 6.21-inch screen.
The listing does specifically mention the Snapdragon 845 but the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’s CPU capacity is listed at 2.8 GHz, which corresponds to the said chipset. The upcoming smartphone will also support Android Oreo 8.1.0 upon launch. Meanwhile, the previously reported battery pack has a 3,000-mAh capacity. But the TENAA listing shows a tad lower 2,900mAh power.
At the time of Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition’s announcement, the Chinese smartphone maker only mentioned a variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It made it seem like this will be the only configuration to be sold.
However, the TENAA filing confirmed that more options with lower RAM and storage capacity will be available. This means that customers can expect more flexible pricing for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
The listed RAM options are 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB. Internal storage variants, meanwhile, are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The TENAA filing also suggests that the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be sold in black, rose gold, gold, white, blue, red, pink, gray, silver and green. Take note that this filing applies to the Chinese market.
Xiaomi already confirmed that the device will hit the stores before July ends. But the release of the TENAA filing only proves that the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is, indeed, going to be launched in the coming weeks. Its 8GB/128GB configuration is priced at CNY 3,799 or around $570.
