The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has recorded a significant increase in AI-driven payments, surpassing 13 million agentic transactions as adoption of blockchain-based payment solutions accelerates.
Chandler Fang, former Ripple product lead and cofounder of t54ai, highlighted the rapid expansion in a recent X post. According to Fang, agentic payments on XRPL have climbed from approximately 1 million transactions in July to more than 13 million, exceeding earlier expectations.
The milestone follows comments from RippleX head of engineering J.A. Akinyele, who previously predicted that agentic transactions would surpass 10 million. With that target already achieved, Akinyele believes the network could reach 100 million transactions sooner than anticipated.
Recent figures show that the XRP Ledger has processed 13,489,468 agentic transactions involving 168 registered x402 merchants. These payments have settled through 6,982.32 XRP and 12,009.98 RLUSD, demonstrating growing activity involving Ripple's native cryptocurrency and stablecoin.
Fang expects the next phase of XRPL adoption to focus on expanding real-world merchant participation. He believes AI agents will increasingly use XRP and RLUSD to purchase services and complete transactions through the network's x402 payment facilitator.
Currently, autonomous AI agents are already making payments for application programming interfaces (APIs), data services, and computing resources. An expanding ecosystem of developer tools could further accelerate adoption by enabling businesses to build applications supporting automated transactions.
During the XRP Seoul 2026 event on October 3, Akinyele discussed Ripple's plans to support the emerging AI agent economy. He emphasized the importance of creating infrastructure that allows autonomous systems to conduct secure and efficient blockchain payments.
According to Akinyele, agentic payments now represent approximately 25% of XRP Ledger activity, highlighting their growing contribution to network usage.
Ripple is also developing specialized infrastructure to strengthen security and functionality, including verifiable digital identities, transaction permissions, spending controls, and secure smart wallets.
These wallets are designed to support XRP and stablecoins while enabling settlement within three to five seconds.
As AI-powered financial applications expand, the XRP Ledger's increasing transaction volume and merchant participation could position XRPL as an important payment infrastructure for the emerging autonomous AI economy.
