Robinhood Buys $25 Million in Bitcoin for Corporate Treasury

Robinhood Buys $25 Million in Bitcoin for Corporate Treasury.

Robinhood has purchased $25 million worth of Bitcoin for its corporate balance sheet, marking the trading platform’s first direct BTC treasury investment as it continues expanding its cryptocurrency business.

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International, confirmed the purchase during the Digital Asset Summit and Token2049 event in Singapore on October 7. Kerbrat disclosed the move during a fireside discussion with Crypto Banter founder Ran Neuner.

The Bitcoin investment represents a significant shift for Robinhood because the BTC will be held directly on the company’s balance sheet rather than in customer custody accounts. The purchase is separate from nearly $25 billion in cryptocurrency assets Robinhood holds on behalf of users, including more than 185,000 BTC valued at approximately $15.6 billion.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev had previously said the company was considering adding Bitcoin to its corporate treasury. The latest purchase comes as Robinhood accelerates its push into digital assets and seeks to connect traditional financial markets with blockchain-based products.

The company has recently expanded its crypto operations internationally, including launching zero-fee cryptocurrency trading in the UK through Bitstamp. Robinhood has also been developing products such as Robinhood Chain, 24/7 tokenized stock trading and perpetual futures.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin recovered some recent losses following the announcement. BTC was trading near $84,280, after moving between a 24-hour low of $83,647 and a high of $86,648. Trading volume increased 16% over the same period amid heightened volatility linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict and expectations surrounding the latest Federal Reserve meeting minutes.

Bitcoin derivatives markets showed mixed signals. CoinGlass data indicated total BTC futures open interest fell 0.5% over one hour to $55.19 billion. However, open interest increased 1.70% over four hours, while CME Bitcoin futures open interest climbed 2.89%.

Robinhood’s Bitcoin purchase adds the brokerage firm to the growing group of publicly traded companies holding BTC directly as a corporate treasury asset.
