Why Quitting Smoking Has Never Been More Important Than It Is Now

Smoking is a habit that’s been declining worldwide for decades, and yet, nearly 14% of the adult population in the US is still smoking. Now, more than ever before, quitting smoking is truly one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. It doesn’t matter what caused you to start smoking to begin with, or how long you’ve been smoking; anyone can quit at any time. There’s no better time than now.

Smoking has become more dangerous over the years, with more chemicals finding their way into the finished tobacco product, nicotine nearly doubling in genetically modified tobacco plants, and healthcare costs continuously rising. It’s time to stop. For good. Here’s why quitting has never been more important.

The COVID-19 Era

Let’s take a step back to January 2020. Everything seemed normal as we went about our days in the US, despite the rumors of a strange illness in Southeastern China. That doesn’t affect us though; we’re halfway around the world, right? Fast forward to March and April of the same year, and schools have closed, bars and restaurants have closed, and American society has come to a grinding halt.

Whispers of a pandemic affecting the entire globe soon became reality, and millions were out of a job, stuck at home in quarantine. COVID-19 was suddenly not just a rumor, but a very real and deadly enemy that silently infiltrated our society from the inside out.

Smoking increases the risk that you’ll develop complications from COVID-19. Why? Because smoking compromises not only your respiratory system but your immune system as well. It becomes much more difficult to fight off even a common cold, let alone an aggressive virus.

It’s never been more important to protect your health and your immune system. If you’re a smoker, you’re putting yourself at risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19 should you contract the virus. It could very well kill you, as it has hundreds of thousands of other Americans.

Heart Disease Is Still The #1 Killer Of Adults

Heart disease remains the number one killer of adults in the US. It spans across race, gender, and societal and wealth gaps. Poor diets, smoking, and lethargic lifestyles are some of the biggest contributing factors to heart disease. Smoking is especially dangerous for the heart. It causes hypertension (high blood pressure), which puts unnecessary strain on the cardiac muscles and blood vessels, and significantly increases your risk for a heart attack, stroke, or other complication.

With over 674,000 Americans falling victim to heart disease every year, you could very well be at risk of losing your life because of your smoking habit. If you’re lethargic as well, you’re essentially doubling your risk factor.

Quitting is easier than ever. Try tobacco free chew as an alternative to cigarettes. Try nicotine gum to slowly erase your dependency on nicotine. It won’t be easy, but it is possible, and there are thousands of people who quit every year. Even CBD gummies and tinctures are being used in the fight against nicotine, and CBD shows great promise in treating addictions of all kinds.

Lung Disease Can Cripple You

If you want to live the rest of your life happy and healthy, you need to quit smoking as soon as possible. Should you develop lung disease, you’ll never be able to enjoy life the same way again. You won’t be able to hike those mountains, run with your kids and grandkids, or even make it across the living room without a struggle. That’s no way to live. How can you enjoy that?

Lung disease or cancer can compromise your lungs’ ability to circulate oxygen, which is something that all of your cells, muscles, tissues, and organs need to function properly. You’ll never be able to get into great shape if you’re a smoker, simply because you’re not able to circulate oxygen properly.

Smoking Is Getting More Dangerous

Smoking is getting more and more dangerous as time passes. Not only is tobacco more addictive than ever, but it’s also laced with thousands of chemicals and toxins from pesticides and fertilizers. The average cigarette contains about 7,000 chemicals. Many of these are toxic, poisonous, or known carcinogens. They’re simply not safe for humans to be in contact with.

Smoking Destroys Your Entire Body

Smoking doesn’t just wreak havoc on your internal organs and blood vessels. Have you ever noticed your skin starting to sag? Bags under your eyes? Age spots? All of these things can be caused by smoking, which is why some smokers look much older than they actually are.

The bottom line? Smoking does nothing but destroy. It will claim your health, your looks, and your money. Should you develop lung or heart disease, your life will never be the same (assuming you survive it). Let’s make a change and take a stand against smoking. We’ll all be better off for it.
