NEW YORK, June 20, 2017 -- Luxury mattress manufacturer Unicorn Sleep says there is hope for patients with stage IV breast cancer.
“We believe in the power of research,” explained Unicorn Sleep CEO Chris Syed. “When properly funded, more life-extending treatments and therapies for stage IV breast cancer will be found.”
To help fund that research, Unicorn Sleep recently introduced a METAvivor mattress. The company donates 30 percent of profits from those sales to the charity METAvivor. METAvivor is a patient-led, non-profit organization that funds research, raises awareness, advocates for, and provides support to people with stage IV (metastatic) breast cancer.
“We at METAvivor are thrilled to partner with Unicorn Sleep. The generosity, care and concern of this company is humbling. Unicorn Sleep understands that research will make a difference for stage IV metastatic breast cancer. And for those patients who have bone metastasis it is really important to have a high quality mattress!” said METAvivor President Beth Fairchild.
Stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is defined by the spread of breast cancer to non-adjacent organs and is fatal in 97–99 percent of cases. In the U.S., more than 40,000 people die from MBC every year.
METAvivor awards grants for research projects that have the potential to shift MBC from a terminal disease to a chronic condition with a good quality of life. 100 percent of every donation given to METAvivor goes toward funding these grants.
“Unicorn Sleep was founded with the belief that good sleep is a vital part of good health and that giving back to the community is a responsibility we all share,” Syed explained. “The METAvivor mattress helps us achieve both.”
Unlike many direct-to-consumer mattress companies, Unicorn Sleep offers a choice of firmness. The handcrafted, 10-comfort-layer mattresses are built with the finest natural, high-quality components and include free white glove delivery and setup, removal, and a 150-night trial period—one of the longest in the industry.
