Volkswagen Unveils Electric XUV With A Terrible Name

The race to electric supremacy within the auto industry is on and Volkswagen recently unveiled its latest contender. A fully electric crossover SUV, it has the features, the look, and the brand recognition to make it a serious competitor to what Tesla is offering. However, its greatest weakness, as noted by numerous publication is its god awful name.

Called the I.D. Crozz, it would seem that VW wants to build a correlation between the name and the Crossover classification of the vehicle, The Verge notes. The same goes for the electric mini bus that the company revealed in January, which is called the I.D. Buzz. Clearly, the latter worked better than the former.

In any case, the Crozz was unveiled during the 2017 Auto Shanghai event and it appears to be the blueprint for the mass produced vehicles that VW will be initiating sometime in 2020. At this point, the vehicle is just a concept, which is why it has some rather interesting features.

Among the most outlandish propositions to be included in the Crozz include an augmented reality feed, which is meant to provide information to drivers in real-time. Controlled via gesture interface, the AR aspect can potentially show obstacles, telemetry, weather predictions, and traffic information.

If the company decides to fully implement the features of the Crozz concept, the vehicle will apparently be equipped with fully autonomous driving technology as well. With a proposed range of 311 miles, the vehicle is a worthy contender to the Tesla Model S 100D. It should also be able to achieve top speeds of 112mph, which is significantly slower compared to its strongest competitor.

VW is really pushing this concept hard, even going so far as to call the Crozz a smartphone on wheels in its press release. Considering the current technologies included in most vehicles these days, the label really isn’t that far-fetched.
