Volkswagen is recalling 60,490 vehicles in the U.S. over a safety issue that could increase the risk of a rollaway if the parking brake is not engaged. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affected models include the 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4 and the 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron Sportback.
The recall stems from a software malfunction that may prevent the gear position from displaying correctly. Without a visible gear indicator, drivers may mistakenly believe their vehicle is in park when it is not, leading to a potential rollaway hazard. This issue raises safety concerns, especially in situations where the parking brake is not manually activated.
Volkswagen has advised owners of the affected vehicles to take precautions until repairs are completed. The company plans to notify impacted customers and offer a software update to fix the problem. Vehicle owners can check their recall status by visiting the NHTSA website or contacting their local dealership.
Automakers frequently issue recalls to address safety defects and ensure compliance with federal regulations. Volkswagen's latest recall highlights the importance of proactive vehicle maintenance and staying informed about manufacturer advisories.
For more details, vehicle owners should refer to Volkswagen or Audi customer service or visit the NHTSA website.
