MALVERN, Pa., Oct. 31, 2016 -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE:VSH) today introduced a new ultra-precision thin film chip resistor that offers a dramatic improvement in TCR and tolerance over previous-generation devices. Available in five case sizes from 0603 to 2512, the Vishay Dale Thin Film PLTU offers a tight TCR of ± 2 ppm/°C and tolerance of ± 0.01 % for industrial, medical, military, and aerospace applications.
With stable film and performance characteristics of ± 0.04 % at +70 °C for 10,000 hours, the device released today is optimized for precision applications requiring low noise and high stability over time and temperature. End products will include test and measurement systems, instrumentation, weight scales, and military and avionics guidance systems.
The PLTU provides a wide resistance range from 100 Ω to 3 MΩ, with non-standard values available. The device offers very low noise of < -30 dB, a low voltage coefficient of 0.1 ppm/V, power dissipation ratings from 150 mW to 1 W, 75 V to 200 V maximum working voltages, and an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C.
The resistor features a high-purity alumina substrate and corrosion-resistant special passivation method (SPM) enhancement, and it is available with lead (Pb)-free and lead (Pb)-bearing wraparound terminations over a nickel barrier. The device is halogen-free and flame-resistant in accordance with UL 94 V-0.
Device Specification Table:
| Case size | Power rating (mW) | Working voltage (V) | Resistance range (Ω) |
| 0603 | 150 | 75 | 100 to 130 k |
| 0805 | 250 | 100 | 100 to 260 k |
| 1206 | 400 | 200 | 100 to 775 k |
| 2010 | 800 | 200 | 150 to 2 M |
| 2512 | 1000 | 200 | 200 to 3 M |
Samples and production quantities of the PLTU resistor are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks.
