NEW YORK, Aug. 24, 2016 -- Varonis Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRNS), a leading provider of software solutions that protect data from insider threats and cyberattacks, today released details on how American Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the national trade association representing the health insurance industry, relies on Varonis solutions to control the security of its data.
AHIP’s members provide health and supplemental benefits to 200 million Americans through employer-sponsored coverage, the individual insurance market, and public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. As an advocate for public policies that expand access to affordable health care coverage, AHIP understands the need for the most advanced technologies to set and enforce data-access policies within its organization. An extensive search led to the implementation of Varonis Data Transport Engine, DatAdvantage and DatAlert.
Anthony Meoni, AHIP’s Vice President of Information and Business Technology, said, “We’ve been so pleased with the implementation of Varonis. It provides us with a more granular look at where our data resides and who is accessing it. As an organization representing the health insurance industry, security is a central priority for us and with the Varonis solutions in place, we know we can rest assured that any unusual activity will be caught and stopped before damage takes place.”
Permissions and data access
When Anthony Meoni realized the need for a solution to provide clearer insight into its data policies, he turned to trusted IT partner RedZone Technologies, which evaluated the Varonis platform and its array of solutions.
According to James Crifasi, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at RedZone Technologies, “Varonis solutions came into our purview when AHIP had a hardware performance problem that resulted in a permissions reset. Scanning the network became a timely task, and the Varonis solutions allowed us to get in quickly to solve the problem and have AHIP back up and running.”
With DatAdvantage and DatAlert, AHIP can easily identify who has access to which files and set alert triggers for any unusual activity, anomalies or lack of use that could indicate threats or unnecessary data. In the event of a problem or misplaced file, AHIP administrators can find the file and source of the change within minutes.
Insight into historical organizational data
AHIP was formed in 2003 through the merger of two trade associations Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) and American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) and as a result of the merger, two large file servers needed to coincide without any legacy data falling by the wayside. Once Varonis Data Transport Engine was implemented, it was able to locate and move sensitive data that had broader access left in place following the merger.
