When buying a used car, you’ll find unexpected repairs one of your main concerns. Most used vehicles in the market are no longer covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty protects owners from repair costs for only three to four years.
You can get a used car warranty, also known as an extended auto warranty, to cover the repair costs. This lets you avoid any hassle after the original plan expires. But extended auto coverage isn’t cheap, and coverages are not the same across car insurance firms. You need to look at individual companies to see what they offer.
Below is a list of companies offering used car warranties in 2022.
Endurance
Endurance is one of the largest auto insurance providers in the U.S. It claims to be the leading provider of direct-to-consumer vehicle protection plans. Founded in 2006 in Northbrook, Illinois, the company provides coverage in all states except California.
Autoguide.com named Endurance its Best Coverage awardee last February. The company is praised for its comprehensive coverage and benefits. It has six coverage plans: Secure, Secure Plus, Superior, Supreme, Select Premier, and EnduranceAdvantage. Secure is its most affordable plan, focusing on essential car parts. Select Premier is ideal for high-mileage vehicles.
The company offers one year of Endurance Elite membership to car owners who get a plan with Endurance. This membership will give you 24-hour roadside assistance. The services include towing and rental car reimbursement if your car breaks down. You will get free tire repair or replacement. You can also enjoy key fob repair or replacement, collision discount, and total loss protection.
CARCHEX
Automoblog.net gave its Best for Used Cars award to CARCHEX for March. The company began in 1999 as a provider of pre-purchase vehicle inspections. It introduced its warranty service in 2007. CARCHEX has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
CARCHEX offers five types of plans: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium. Bronze is the basic powertrain coverage for a vehicle’s engine and transmission. Meanwhile, its Titanium plan is an exclusionary type of coverage. It includes almost all systems and parts. The provider offers coverage that can last up to 10 years.
The firm is also known for its excellent customer service. You don’t have to worry about not getting support in case of emergencies. Aside from the coverage, CARCHEX plan holders also enjoy roadside assistance, rental car reimbursement, trip interruption, and towing services.
Concord Auto Protect
Money.com selected Concord Auto Protect as its Best Customer Satisfaction company for 2022. It’s known for its responsiveness to customers on different platforms. Its clients can contact support via phone, email, and even Facebook, among other platforms. The company has been providing coverage for over 20 years.
Unlike the previous companies, Concord keeps it simple by offering only three coverage plans: Powertrain, Advanced, and Premium. Powertrain provides the most basic coverage. Advanced offers an upgrade by including AWD/4x4 and steering coverage. The Premium plan is its highest-tier plan. It combines Powertrain and Advanced. It also added coverage for high technology electronics and general bumper-to-bumper protection.
These Concord plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee if you change your mind. You can fully transfer the policy if you sell your car in the future.
Protect My Car
Protect My Car (PMC) is another used car warranty provider to consider. Motor1.com selected PMC for its Best Maintenance Benefits award in March 2022. PMC stands out for its traditional extended warranty coverage and maintenance plans. The latter helps you pay for the costs of scheduled maintenance.
Like Concord, PMC has only three plans: Supreme, Select, and Driveline. Supreme is an exclusionary plan that covers everything not included in the exclusions. Meanwhile, the Select plan is for vehicles with over 50,000 miles. It also applies to those who did not qualify for the Supreme plan. It’s basically a stated-component plan. It has the same coverage as Supreme except for the navigation system and turbocharger.
Lastly, the Driveline plan is for older cars with more than 80,000 miles. It is designed for vehicles that are between four to 10 years old. PMC provides coverage for your car’s powertrain, cooling, and electrical systems.
PMC also has other benefits in addition to the coverages. Some are tire rotations, free oil changes, towing, rental car reimbursement, and 24/7 roadside assistance.
The Bottom Line
Peace of mind is something every used car owner wants. An extended car warranty provides this by taking care of unexpected repair costs. The companies mentioned above are only some of the providers available in the market. While there are different options, what’s important is to get a plan according to your specific needs. Choosing reputable companies can also help prevent issues later.
