President Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland is a serious matter, not a joke, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In an interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, Rubio emphasized that acquiring the autonomous Danish territory aligns with U.S. national interests, particularly concerning Arctic security and global shipping routes.
Trump, who has expressed this interest since his reelection, has not ruled out economic or military leverage to persuade Denmark. Rubio stated that while tactical details remain undecided, the U.S. is committed to securing its strategic position in the Arctic.
Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has firmly rejected any sale, reinforcing that the island’s future lies with its people. However, Rubio warned that China’s growing influence in the Arctic makes securing the region crucial for U.S. national security.
While Trump’s approach remains unclear, Rubio suggested that America’s Arctic presence will be stronger in the next four years.
