LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 12, 2018 -- Ports of LA - Today the Harbor Trucking Association and California Trucking Association Intermodal Conference announced the results of the HTA’s December “Truck Mobility Data” which shows again that LBCT is among the top performing terminals with respect to gate transactions. With an average of 54 minutes per total visit time during the month, LBCT finished the year with a consistent average between 39 minutes and just under an hour.
Among the reasons for these times are fully automated integration between the trucker and the TMS system, a robust appointment system and the ability to utilize LBCT’s off-site chassis facility. “The ability to utilize the satellite facility managed by LBCT and PCMC has given truckers the ability to streamline their operations once they arrive at the terminal. Coupled with the appointment system and automated protocols at the gates, LBCT’s turn times are among the most competitive in the harbor,” said George Boyle, President of the HTA.
Consistent with these efforts to drive down visit times at terminal gates, it is anticipated that the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will be seeking opportunities in the coming weeks for others to develop similar off-site chassis facilities. “The CTA Intermodal Conference endorses this concept,” said Robert Loya of NFI/Cal Cartage and President of the CTA Southern California Intermodal Conference. “We also support the Ports identifying other pieces of land or opportunities for other operators to use chassis depot facilities in order to cut down on wait times at the gates.”
