“The Winds of Winter” is taking a long time to be released and yet it seems that fans still have to wait some more after it was reported that George RR Martin is delaying the sixth book of the “ASOIAF” series again. The 71-year-old author previously made a promise to get the book out in the bookstores by July or August, but it looks like he can’t fulfill it for the nth time.

Express noted that fans have been expecting good news from GRMM, and some even thought that he would surprise his followers by releasing “The Winds of Winter” last month, but apparently, that did not happen. Now, when it was reported that he is taking in new workloads, the concerns about the publishing of “TWOW” has increased as fans are worried about possible delays since he has other things to do.

Publishing date announcement

Last year, Martin said that he would surely release “The Winds of Winter” and mentioned July or August 2020. He wrote this promise through his blog entry titled “Thanks, New Zealand” in May 2019. At that time, he stated: “If I don’t have ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.”

Martin clearly said that the book would be completed by the time he attends the Worldcon in New Zealand, and this was scheduled for July 29 to Aug. 2, so it can be assumed that at these dates, he already has “The Winds of Winter” and ready for publishing. It is even possible that by this time, the book is already out, but then, there are fresh rumors that GRRM is delaying it once again.

The delay rumors

The delay was reported when George RR Martin was interviewed by the German newspaper called Die Welt. In a translation that was posted on Reddit, it was said that “The Winds of Winter” will not arrive as planned because the author is rewriting some parts, especially the ending that will be very different from how HBO’s “Game of Thrones” ended.

Then again, despite these delay rumors, no one knows yet if Martin will be able to release “The Winds of Winter” on his promised date. The due is still months away, and he could end up fulfilling his promise after all the concerns.
