George R.R. Martin is unsurprisingly kept in the loop about "Game of Thrones" even though he has not been writing for the show in years. He recently confirmed that a longer trailer is coming up before the final season premieres in April. Unfortunately, he has no updates yet about “The Winds of Winter.”
Earlier this month, HBO confirmed that “Game of Thrones” season 8 will officially premiere on Sunday, April 14. The network has also released a brief teaser that only shows Arya (Maisie Williams), Sansa (Sophie Turner), and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in the Winterfell crypts. But the “The Winds of Winter” author revealed to fans that there is “a longer trailer in the works.”
HBO has announced the premiere date for the eighth (and final) season of GAME OF THRONES. Mark it down on your calendars: APRIL 14. There's a new teaser too (and a longer trailer in the works): https://t.co/RJCCpEZtEV

Martin announced in 2015 that he will no longer partake in writing scripts for “Game of Thrones” season 6 and beyond. His reason was clear, it was to focus on finishing “The Winds of Winter.” The critically-acclaimed author explained, “Writing a season six script would cost me a month's work on ‘WINDS,’ and maybe as much as six weeks, and I cannot afford that.”
Fast forward to January 2016, Martin revealed to fans that he was working with a deadline of late October 2015 for “The Winds of Winter” around the time he decided to leave his writing duties for the TV series. That ultimatum would be adjusted to the end of 2015 but Martin admitted that he failed to comply with the said schedules.
Then in November 2018, he released an all-new book “Fire and Blood” and came clean that he had been struggling with “The Winds of Winter.” But it seems like the dark times are over. In his following blog posts and interviews, Martin would reiterate that he is back on finishing the much-awaited book and it is now his no. 1 priority.
“I am back in my fortress of solitude, and back in Westeros. It won’t be tomorrow, and it won’t be next week, but you will get the end of ‘A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE,” Martin wrote last December. However, an official release date for “The Winds of Winter” has not been announced yet.
