‘The Winds of Winter’: George RR Martin reveals fans harassing him for not writing and delaying ‘TWOW’

George RR Martin turned 72 last month, and even on his special day, he has been working to finish “The Winds of Winter.” He has been working and focusing on the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series as he revealed that fans are already harassing him for delaying the book further.

This means that the famous author was still in the mountains and confined in the cabin where he is holed up since the coronavirus outbreak. Martin previously shared through his blog post that he is only accompanied by one assistant and his time is devoted to writing and on days, he just read and watches TV as his recreation and for taking a break.

Martin being pressured to finish “TWOW”

The author is very much aware that his fans have been waiting for “The Winds of Winter” for years. He also missed a few deadlines already and while he doesn’t feel good about it as well, he is just disappointed because many fans are already harassing him for not writing and completing the book.

In April, via interview, George RR Martin himself shared that he receives dozens of messages on social media and emails. Most of the letters and notes he gets were from fans and they say the same message.

Martin said that he feels being harassed in this way because fans are demanding immediate answers. They want to know when he will finish “The Winds of Winter” and asked if he has been writing the book.

The author said that unfortunately, rather than helping him to be motivated and push him to write, those messages do not help him write faster but only make him bad and frustrated. He knows that he is already very late with publishing “TWOW” but the fans don’t have to harass him as he is also doing his best to write.

“I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that Winds of Winter isn’t finished,” Martin told Entertainment Weekly in a more recent interview. “And I’m mad about that myself. I wished I finished it four years ago. I wished it was finished now.”

When will GRRM publish the book?

GRRM has not set a deadline for “The Winds of Winter” but he said that he still has so much to write. And while there are many predictions on when he will complete the book, he previously warned people not to believe the date because he will be the one to announce it, and it will be a straightforward announcement without codes or hints to cipher.

“I've said before, and I will say again, I don't play games with news about the books,” Martin wrote. “I am still working on WINDS. When it's done, I will announce it here.”
