In the past few weeks, game director Neil Druckmann has been churning out news regarding the filming of “The Last of Us Part 2” and how everything has been wrapped in this department. Unfortunately, Druckmann has yet to provide the fan base an exact release date for the title.
But with the recent announcements, there’s a chance that “The Last of Us Part 2” will be coming out late in 2019. This is especially true when Druckmann’s recent tweets are combined with the previous leaks surrounding the sequel.
For the past few months, game retailers from several different territories have claimed that “The Last of Us Part 2” will soon hit the shelves. Last week, a Slovakian retailer claimed that the sequel will be coming out on Sept. 27. Prior to that, a Peruvian retailer released a promotional image where it stated that the game will be available in October.
Even PlayStation itself provided more fuel to this narrative when it tagged “The Last of Us Part 2” as a title that’ll be dropped this year. Apart from this recent leaks, there’s also the previous comments by notable individuals that add weight to a 2019 release date.
For instance, Gustavo Santaolalla previously said that “The Last of Us Part 2” will be “coming soon,” the statement made in an off-the-cuff manner. This was also the case with IGN host Alanah Pearce who may have accidentally shared the information on Twitter.
Then there’s the fact that Druckmann himself said in 2017 that “The Last of Us Part 2” is 50-60 percent finished. With the actors wrapping up filming and the leaks increasing in the past months, fans can’t help but wonder if these are signs that the sequel is nearing its release date. Of course, since Naughty Dog itself hasn’t confirmed anything yet, it’s best to lower our expectations for now. Hopefully, no unforeseen complication will occur in the coming months so that development of the title goes swimmingly from here on out.
