With the impending production of the Tesla Model 3 electric vehicle, fans of the company have been clamoring for details about the car, especially with regards to its range. When asked if the company’s most affordable unit would come with 100kWh battery capacity, CEO Elon Musk said that it won’t. This is likely to disappoint some people who were hoping to get even better mileage from their electric cars if they chose the Model 3.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Tesla has already achieved great things with regards to increasing the mileage of their electric cars, with its high-end Model S units being able to drive for more than 300 miles on a single charge, Futurism reports. This is a considerable improvement over past electric vehicles by both Musk’s company and other car makers.

Just for context, Tesla previously mentioned that the base model of the Model 3 will likely have less than 60 kWh battery capacity, which would be enough to reach 215 miles on a single charge. Given that the cheaper model is also smaller than the higher end units, it’s more than likely that its range will benefit from the lighter weight.

Then again, some Model S and Model X vehicles do come close 100 kWh battery capacities, Mashable reports, so getting over that limitation might not be entirely impossible in the short term. Specific details on the battery, performance, range and the like with regards to the Model 3 is still scarce at this point since it will be a long while before the company finishes production and for the units to hit the market.

Aside from answering some questions with regards to the upcoming vehicle, Musk also mentioned that India might see the Model 3 on its shores as well. He said that it might be coming this summer, so that’s something that electric car fans in the country can look forward to.
