Tesla's Cybertruck will receive its Full Self-Driving (FSD) update in September, while Park Assist will be rolled out this weekend, according to Tesla's Autopilot Director.
Cybertruck FSD Release Slated for September
It would appear that the eagerly anticipated introduction of the Cybertruck's Full Self Driving (FSD) functionality is now on the horizon for Tesla owners, Teslarati reports. Ashok Elluswamy, director of autopilot software at Tesla, dropped hints about this on social media platform X.
Among Tesla's current offerings, the Cybertruck stands head and shoulders above the competition thanks to its 48-volt architecture and steer-by-wire system. Regardless, buyers have received their vehicles devoid of any driver assistance systems. To no one's surprise, Tesla owners are eagerly awaiting word on when the Cybertruck will get FSD or even basic Autopilot.
Park Assist Rolling Out for Cybertruck This Weekend
A relatively solid schedule for the introduction of FSD to the electric pickup truck was, thankfully, given by the Tesla Autopilot Director. According to Elluswamy, the Cybertruck will get Park Assist by the weekend, while FSD will be released in the middle of next month.
“Cybertruck will start with parking assistance features, given that it ain’t exactly the easiest vehicle to park. Initial release is slated for end of this week. FSD for Cybertruck expected in Sep(tember),” the Tesla Autopilot Director said in his post. Many Tesla employees and the official X account for the Cybertruck found the executive's message hilarious, and they responded in kind.
Park Assist Released First, Other Autopilot Features Expected Before FSD
It appears like Tesla is planning to implement a delayed deployment strategy for the Cybertruck's driver-assist functions, according to Elluswamy's comment on X. Given that Park Assist was the initial release, it would be expected that other fundamental Autopilot features, such as lane maintain assist and autosteer, would also be included in the vehicle prior to FSD's September planned release.
Interestingly, the prediction made by CEO Elon Musk a few months ago and the estimate given by the Autopilot Director on the release of FSD for the Cybertruck actually coincide. The Cybertruck's FSD was still "a few months away," as Musk said in May.
The electric vehicle manufacturer is still only making Foundation Series units of the all-electric pickup truck, so the keen anticipation among Cybertruck owners today for the debut of FSD is reasonable. You can notice that every Cybertruck Foundation Series unit comes with FSD on the vehicle's order page.
