COMPUTEX, TAIPEI Taiwan and SAN JOSE, Calif., May 30, 2017 -- Synaptics Incorporated (NASDAQ:SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced Acer has selected Synaptics® Natural ID™ fingerprint sensors backed by highly-secure SentryPoint™ technology for its popular Switch 5 PCs. The Acer Switch 5 is one of the industry’s most secure PCs due to the implementation of Synaptics’ SecureLink™ technology – entailing fully-encrypted end-to-end biometric authentication from the sensor to the host processor. SecureLink combines industry-standard TLS (1.2) secure communication with AES-256 encryption.
The versatile Acer Switch 5 is a high-performance 2-in-1 PC featuring Synaptics’ fingerprint reader built directly into the power button to conveniently and securely authenticate users while providing swift access to their work or play. The Acer Switch 5 drives confidence in safety of fingerprint security for online transactions and data security and is further enhanced by Windows Hello and Intel SGX.
“Acer takes security very seriously and we are proud to offer a robust solution that protects users while providing the convenience of password-free biometric authentication,” said James Lin, general manager, Commercial & Detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. “Working with Synaptics, we were able to implement a highly-secure fingerprint sensor on the Switch 5’s power button by leveraging their industry-leading technology.”
“Acer understands that partial encryption equals no encryption, and critical to that is leveraging SecureLink from the moment the finger touches the sensor all the way to the Quantum Matcher™ template authentication tool located on the host OS in this case,” said Godfrey Cheng, vice president marketing, Human Interface Systems Division, Synaptics. “The Synaptics single-chip solution does not require an external microcontroller for handling the cryptographic functions and is fully integrated with secure TLS communication and 256-bit AES encryption.”
